Assam Finance Minister and Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma Thursday reviewed the flood situation in the flood-hit State.

Biswa Sarma went to analyse the current flood situation in Kamalpur area of Kamrup (R) district. The 'modern-day Chanakya' met the flood-affected people in a relief camp at Athgaon area held discussions with the people displaced due to floods in the State.

The Minister also assured the people that the breached embankments along the river would be repaired at the earliest.

After visiting Hajo's Monakuchi, Himanta instructed the concerned officials to ensure that the embankments are repaired in a most efficient manner at the earliest so that the suffering of the people can be alleviated.

As per the latest reports disclosed by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 4,626 villages in 114 revenue circles have been affected due to the floods caused by incessant rains in the region.

As per the latest official figures, approximately 57,51,938 people have been affected due to the floods.

The total number of deaths caused by floods now stands at 28. Two persons have also lost their lives due to landslides.

The NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams have been pressed into service in the flood affected areas for search and rescue operations.
