Illegal Immigrants Should Not Only Leave Assam But from the Entire Country: Amit Shah

Guwahati, September 9, 2019:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that illegal immigrants should not only leave Assam but the entire country.

While addressing the 4^th Conclave of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), Shah reiterated that India should be made free from illegal immigrants.

Shah further added that there will be no spill of illegal immigrants to other northeastern states.

Assam had recently published its final draft of NRC which was targeted at freeing the state of the influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

Shah also assured that the Citizenship Amendment Bill would not change anything in the Northeastern States. He said that since Article 371 was a special provision given to the Northeast, regional laws will prevail.

While addressing the NEDA Conclave, the Union Minister also said that the central government will take strict measures to curb border issues in the Northeast. The aim is to free the region from corruption and drug abuse.

Shah further said that the Narendra Modi-led government is committed to developing the Northeast States and pledged to vigorously work towards the overall welfare of the region in the next five years.
