GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metro) district administration today declared closure of all lower primary schools in the district from tomorrow in view of the worsening COVID-19 scenario in the district.
“In pursuance of the Government Notification issued vide No. ASE01/2020/Pt-II/142, dated: 17-04-2021 and in view of increasing number of COVID-19 Positive cases in the Kamrup Metropolitan district, all Lower Primary Schools (Class I to V) both Government and Private are declared closed w.e.f 19th April 2021 until further order,” an order from Kamrup (M) deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu said today.
“After review of the situation, further order for opening of the Lower Primary Schools will be issued in due course of time,” the order added.

Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday said districts where the total number of COVID-19 cases exceed 100 within 10 days (from April 7-16) will be expected to close down the lower primary schools (Classes I to V). The decision in this regard will be taken by the deputy commissioners of the respective districts.
The capital city has 360 active cases as on Saturday night.
With the number of active cases exceeding 300, all the Rongali Bihu stage programmes are also set to get suspended. At least two major programmes – Beltola and Betkuchi – have already called off their three-day programmes in view of the situation.

The state government had permitted stage programmes and mass congregations following strict COVID-19 protocols this Bihu in view of the acute financial constraint the artistes were facing after Bihu shows were cancelled last year due to COVID-19 outbreak.
Popular singer Manas Robin had the other day appealed to the government to grant financial ex-gratia to the artistes to tide over their financial crunch rather than issuing guidelines for Bihu programmes.
