DIPHU: The Chairman of Karbi Democratic Liberation Front (KDLF) was killed in an encounter with police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Jackson Ronghang and he was the chairman of the recently floated Karbi Democratic Liberation Front (KDLF).
Bokajan Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) John Das said that the encounter took place at Bibia Kro village under Rongmongwe police station in the hill district.
Police received inputs that Ronghang had gone to his house and and an operation was carried out at Bibia Kro village under Rongmongwe police station and an encounter subsequently took place between a police and Jackson during which he was pierced by bullets.
One pistol and ammunition along with other materials of KDLF like demand letter and pads from the encounter spot were recovered from the encounter site.
It needs mention here that Jackson Ronghang is a prime accused in a kidnapping case. Several cases of extortion and arms act were registered at different police stations against him.
