GUWAHATI: An earthquake of 4.7 magnitude hit Guwahati and its adjoining areas in Assam on Saturday, hours before polling for the first phase of state assembly election begins.
The earthquake occurred at 12.32 am and the epicenter was in East Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km.

Panic-stricken people ran out of their homes as the quake struck the region.
There was however no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.
