AIZAWL: The Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of the headquarters of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered over two lakh methamphetamine tablets in Kawnpui Vengthar on March 26.
While seizing the contraband items, the Excise and Narcotics Department also seized the contraband item.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram police in Kolasib based on specific information.
The approximate cost of the recovered methamphetamine tablets is Rupees 12 lakh.
"Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram," an official said.
