GUWAHATI: A day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s two day visit to Diphu, a crowd of people allegedly from Meghalaya on Tuesday attacked a police outpost of Assam in Umlakher in West Karbi-Anglong district of Assam-Meghalaya border.

As per reports, hundreds of people from Meghalaya attacked a police outpost in Umlakher when Assam Police allegedly mistreated a person from Khasi community.

The crowd destroyed a bunker of Assam police in the area.

Following the tension, both the states have deployed their security forces alongside the border area.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biwa Saema had earlier said that the state of Meghalaya has encroached in 53 areas inside Assam territory, including 40 in West Karbi Anglong District and 13 in Kamrup District.

So far, there are 12 areas of differences between the two states.
