NEW DELHI: Sushmita Dev, former President of All India Mahila Congress today addressed the media for the first time after joining the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.

Speaking to newsmen, the former Congress MP from Barak said that her ideology was not comprised while joining the TMC.

“I think after taking the decision of joining TMC, I have made absolutely no compromise on my ideology. I think the future is bright as we are going to work for the country. This is not the objective of only Mamata Didi but many political parties want the same and I will be a part of it.”

Amidst speculation of Dev going to be the CM face for TMC in Tripura polls, she said that she has joined the party without any terms and conditions.

“I have never demanded anything from the high command. I need to put my faith in them that they will give me some kind of responsibility. It's only 24 hours since I joined and I will fulfill any responsibility that I am bestowed upon. My joining the party is attached with no condition” said the politician.

She also said that joining the Trinamool Congress is not counter-productive to the larger picture she is aiming at.

“I don’t think joining the TMC is in anyway counter-productive to the larger picture that we are all looking towards in the future and I would like to work for the organization in whatever capacity Mamata Didi wants me to. My interaction with Abhisekh was excellent. He has immense clarity and he is confident about the vision of the party. I believe that he can take that vision to the ground in whichever direction and in whatever part of the country.” She added.

She also said that she will ever be grateful to Indian National Congress for giving her enough political opportunities.

“While I sent the resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, I sought her blessings. I believe Congress Party has given me enough opportunities to contest elections, to be a spokesperson and to be a Chief of Mahila Congress and not even for a moment I am ungrateful for them.”

Replying to the question of the press, she said that it would be wrong to compare two leaders – Rahul Gandhi and Abhisekh Banerjee.

“It is against my principle to compare both the leaders. I have worked with Rahul ji and now I am going to work with Abhisekh Ji.”

Sushmita Dev, who had been associated with the Congress party for the past three decades said she is very optimistic about the future as between now and 2024 a lot of change will be visible in the country.
