GUWAHATI: With the COVID-19 second wave continuing to surge, Assam health department has decided to open two massive facilities with 500 beds in the city.
A 100-bedded facility to treat COVID-19 patients has already been set up at the Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Jalukbari here.
The hospital, which will be opened soon, has 14 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 33 beds connected to oxygen supply.
On the other hand, another 400-bedded massive facility is being set up at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi indoor stadium, Sarusajai.
The construction work of the facility is going on a war footing and expected to be completed soon.
Last year too, facilities to treat COVID-19 patients were opened at these places.
Meanwhile, Assam recorded 639 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and six deaths yesterday.

Kamrup (M) recorded the highest 354 COVID-19 positive cases, followed by Kamrup with 35, Nagaon 28 and Dibrugarh 26 cases.
Currently, there are 5,268 active cases in the state. As many as 2,16,705 people have recovered from the infection so far with 159 discharged yesterday.
