10% of Zubeen’s fans are now my fans; I’d rank among his top 10 admirers: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 7 said that a section of late singer Zubeen Garg’s fans have expressed satisfaction with the state government’s ongoing investigation into the artist’s mysterious death, even crediting the administration for showing unprecedented seriousness in the case.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Sarma said, “Zubeen Garg’s fans are very satisfied with the ongoing probe, the series of arrests and investigations. They did not expect that the Assam government would act so swiftly. Every day, my inbox is flooded with messages from Zubeen’s fans appreciating how we brought him back from Singapore and gave him an honorary farewell.”

The Chief Minister added with a smile, “Around ten per cent of Zubeen’s fans have now become my fans for the respect we’ve given to him. I myself am among Zubeen’s biggest admirers. Who composed my father’s songs? It was Zubeen Garg. If there’s ever a competition to decide who Zubeen’s biggest fan is, my name will surely be among the top ten — I have always regarded him like an elder brother.”

The statement comes amid an intensifying investigation by the Assam CID into the singer’s death in Singapore, which has drawn widespread public attention and emotional response across the state.
The Chief Minister further announced that a case will be registered against Gaurav Gogoi for making “provocative and insensitive remarks.” Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi made inflammatory comments while claiming to support Assamese identity. He even remarked that when an artist like Zubeen Garg dies, people outside the state burn down shops and establishments — such statements are unacceptable and hurt public sentiment.”

"There will be a case... a omnibus case will be registered against all who has used political milage to the Zubeen's death case and in this case I am sure Gaurav Gogoi will be questioned. The way we registered a case in CAA protest we will register a case against all who created panic at the Airport, Sarusajai Stadium.. no one will be spared."
