Himanta says case to be filed against Gaurav Gogoi, hints his close ties with Shyamkanu Mahanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 7 hinted at a deep association between event manager Shyamkanu Mahanta and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, describing them as “bundiya-bhujiya”—a colloquial expression meaning inseparable friends.

Sarma urged the public to look back at Mahanta’s Facebook posts during the Jorhat elections, which, he said, clearly reveal a close political friendship between the two.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid an ongoing CID probe into Mahanta’s alleged financial irregularities and his suspected link to the mysterious death of singer-actor Zubeen Garg in Singapore.

The Chief Minister further announced that a case will be registered against Gaurav Gogoi for making “provocative and insensitive remarks.” Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi made inflammatory comments while claiming to support Assamese identity. He even remarked that when an artist like Zubeen Garg dies, people outside the state burn down shops and establishments — such statements are unacceptable and hurt public sentiment.”

"There will be a case... a omnibus case will be registered against all who has used political milage to the Zubeen's death case and in this case I am sure Gaurav Gogoi will be questioned. The way we registered a case in CAA protest we will register a case against all who created panic at the Airport, Sarusajai Stadium.. no one will be spared."

Further slamming Gaurav Gogoi, CM Sarma said, "What will Gaurav give justice to Zubeen? .. Zubeen was an Indian National, but Gaurav Gogoi's two children are foreign nationals.. till date, he has not applied for Indian National.

Sarma’s sharp remarks have stirred fresh political tension in Assam, with the opposition yet to issue a response.
