5 lakh more beneficiaries will be added under Orunodoi scheme: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while attending Orunodoi scheme implementation programme in BTR at Kokrajhar on October 11 said that the government is planning to add 5 lakh more beneficiaries under the ambit of the Orunodoi scheme in the coming days.

Speaking to the reporters after the programme, CM Sarma said, "Within two days, an additional 7 lakh beneficiaries will come under the Orunodoi  Scheme. With this, the number of Orunodoi beneficiaries will increase to 27 lakh. In the coming days, we will add on 5 lakh more Orunodoi beneficiaries. Our target is to provide at least 50 percent of the population having ration card enjoy the benefits of Orunodoi scheme. Under the Orunodoi scheme, beneficiaries will receive a monthly aid of Rs 1200 of which the Rs 250 can be used to pay electricity bill, of this they will also buy 2 kg pulses, 2 kg rice, Rs 400 will go for medical expenses, and Rs 170 towards loan they took from various lending groups. We have even printed a booklet mentioning all the methodologies for the public to judiciously utilise the money".

The chief minister mentioned that except BJP, UPPL and AGP, rest of the political parties will be blown away by the power of the Orunodoi scheme.

CM Sarma added that the government will distribute a booklet among the public that wil include the rules of how to use the money of Orunodoi scheme in a more judicious manner.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Sharma on Wednesday formally inaugurated the newly constructed Kokrajhar District BJP Office Building at Habrebari while also distributing Orunodoi cards and certificates among the beneficiary women under the Orunodoi 2:0 scheme at a meeting held at Greenfield in Kokrajhar city.

Speaking with regards to the controversy surrounding the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, the chief minister said that he is keeping tab on the development and have also urged the VC to resign form his post. In further added that the Vice Chancellor is not ready to resign from his post and is adamant on his decision.
