After Hasila Beel, Assam gears up for Rakhyasini Pahar eviction: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, June 18, announced that the government has completed the eviction drive at Hasila Beel and is now preparing for the next major operation at Rakhyasini Pahar.

Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma said, “One eviction — Hasila Beel — is over. We have a second eviction in line, which is Rakhyasini Pahar, and we are gearing up for it.”

The Chief Minister highlighted that the recently evicted Hasila Beel, spread across 1,500 bighas, is even larger than the ecologically significant Deepor Beel, and had been encroached upon by illegal settlers.

“Even the opposition acknowledged that eviction should be carried out in such areas,” he added, emphasising bipartisan consensus on clearing encroachments from vital natural zones.

The government has been intensifying its anti-encroachment efforts as part of a broader push to reclaim wetlands, forest lands, and protected sites across the state.
