AIUDF chief Ajmal seeks Rs 1 lakh crore for Assam floods, Rs 5000 crore for minorities

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has submitted a memorandum to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, demanding Rs 1 lakh crore to address Assam's flood issues and Rs five thousand crore for the betterment of minorities in India.

Ajmal highlighted that floods have been causing significant damage in Assam for the past seventy-five years, affecting 29 districts this year alone, and leading to loss of life and property.

“Yesterday in the budget speech Union Minister Sitharaman in her speech announced that she will be granting an amount for solving Assam’s flood and erosion problem. I have written to the Foreign Minister that for the last seventy-five years every year flood hits Assam and makes big losses for the state. This time flood hit 29 districts, Not less than a hundred people lost their lives and many lost their property. I request the finance minister representing the citizens of Assam that you grant an amount of one lakh crore. We the people of Assam will forever be grateful and we will pray for you," the AIUDF chief said.

He urged the Finance Minister to allocate the requested funds to alleviate the situation.

Additionally, Ajmal pointed out that the minorities in India, including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and Parsis, require more financial support than the currently allocated Rs 3100 crore.

He requested an increase to Rs 5000 crore to support initiatives like 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' and the provision of laptops and educational resources to minority children.

Earlier this month, Badruddin Ajmal criticised the Assam government for its handling of the flood situation in Dhubri.

He stated that 90 per cent of the flood-affected areas have not received any relief materials and accused the state government of doing nothing for Assam.

Ajmal mentioned that the flood situation has been ongoing for 15-20 days, resulting in many people losing their homes and lives. He termed this as the ignorance of the state government.

The flood situation in Assam continues to worsen, with the death toll now exceeding 90, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Over 5 lakh people across 18 districts are currently affected by the deluge, with Cachar district bearing the brunt of the disaster.
