AIUDF reacts to NDA’s VP pick, calls for neutrality in high office

Reacting to the NDA’s announcement of Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Rafiqul Islam on Sunday said the ruling alliance has fielded a nominee backed by its numerical strength and ideological roots.

“NDA has the numbers, so it has brought its candidate. They have chosen someone with a strong RSS background,” Islam remarked. He, however, stressed that once elected to such a high constitutional post, the individual must rise above political affiliations. “After taking charge of such posts, the person should be neutral,” he said.

The AIUDF legislator further added that the opposition INDIA bloc would also announce its own candidate in due course, setting the stage for a contest in the Vice Presidential elections.
