Akhil Gogoi, the firebrand MLA from Shivsagar, appears to be gaining unprecedented traction among minority communities in Assam ahead of the second phase of the Panchayat elections.
His energetic campaign, which sees him crisscrossing several constituencies in a single day, is drawing large crowds, especially in minority-dominated areas.
With days and nights blending into one, Gogoi has thrown himself into a whirlwind election campaign, sometimes covering 12 to 13 locations in a single day. His rallies resemble major Assembly election campaigns, not just Panchayat-level ones — a testament to the intensity of his outreach.

Wherever Akhil Gogoi goes, massive crowds gather, signalling a surge in his popularity. His presence is being strongly felt in regions traditionally dominated by minority voters, with many political observers noting that he’s steadily cementing his position in these belts.
During his campaign, Gogoi didn’t hold back from making sharp political statements. He accused the Congress of selling tickets for the elections and took aim at both the BJP and AIUDF, labelling them as communal parties.
He declared that in 2026, he would “drown” boththe BJP and AIUDF politically in the Brahmaputra and claimed that Himanta Biswa Sarma would be forced to “drink water from the river like a stray.”
