Arunachal Christian Forum to stage protest against APFRA outside assembly despite permission denial

In opposition to the controversial Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA) of 1978, the Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has announced a peaceful demonstration in front of the Legislative Assembly in Itanagar. The protest is scheduled to take place on March 6, coinciding with the first day of the Budget session.

Speaking to the media, ACF President Tarh Miri reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to staging a peaceful dharna, emphasizing their democratic right to protest. He asserted that despite the capital administration’s refusal to grant permission, the ACF remains resolute in its decision to move forward with the demonstration.

"We are peace-loving, God-fearing, and law-abiding citizens. We are firm in our resolve to protest outside the Legislative Assembly on March 6, the opening day of the Budget session," said Miri.

The APFRA, which has been a subject of contention for years, has drawn criticism from various religious and civil rights groups, who argue that it curtails religious freedom. With this latest protest, ACF aims to intensify its call for a review and repeal of the act. Security measures are expected to be heightened around the Legislative Assembly in anticipation of the demonstration.
