Assam: Anti-CAA protest gains momentum in Bongaigaon district

Students of Abhayapuri College in Abhayapuri township, Bongaigaon district, organized a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on March 15. The demonstration, spearheaded by the Abhayapuri College Students' Union, marks a significant escalation in the ongoing anti-CAA movement in the region.

The protest, held in front of Abhayapuri College, saw a large turnout of students expressing their dissent against the contentious CAA. The student union members expressed their angst on the decision taken by the Chief Minister of Assam and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah condemning the Act. They made it clear indicating a future protest in large no. by their college student in disagreement to CAA. “Not just today, we will come out everyday”, says one of the members in clear denial to CAA.

The students further pointed out the discriminatory nature of the bill seeking clear response from the Assam Chief Minister. 

The protest in Abhayapuri adds to the chorus of voices across Assam and the Northeast region opposing the CAA, which critics argue undermines the secular ethos of the nation and threatens the rights of indigenous communities.
