Assam: Badarpur school under scanner for hoisting the national flag a day before Independence Day, faces backlash
A Higher Secondary school in Badarpur under Karimganj district in Assam has come under the radar of the district authorities after the national flag was hoisted in advance, on the night of August 14 instead of August 15 when the nation celebrates its Independence Day.
The school in question, Srigauri Higher Secondary School is now under the scanner after alert locals and informed the district authorities as well as the police about the ‘disrespect shown to the country’s flag and the Constitution and gross disregard to the government’s directive.
According to sources, few conscious citizens complained about the incident to the district collector of Karimganj, urging him to take appropriate action against the school headmaster.
"This school was established in the year 1934. But surprisingly, the tri-colour flag was not hoisted on August 14. The headmaster was not present and with only two teachers in attendance for Independence Day. When we came here to give shraddhanjali, we found that our national flag was already hoisted, maybe on the night of August 14. When we came here to give our obeisance to the freedom fighters and light the lamps, we found the national flag was already hoisted on the evening of August 14. We even asked the headmaster who replied that the flag was already hoisted. To this we replied that yes the flag was hoisted but not on August 15 but on August 14", said one of the locals.
Concerned locals of the area have also alleged that the headmaster confessed to the incident and requested to suppress the incident.
