The Baokhungri Festival, a three-day cultural celebration organized by the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Tourism Department, concluded today with a spectacular turnout at the scenic Baokhungri Hill, near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar district.
The final day coincided with Chaitra Sankranti, drawing an estimated one lakh devotees and visitors from across Assam and beyond.
At the heart of the celebration was the traditional spiritual trek to the 1,490-foot-high Baokhungri hilltop, a sacred ritual deeply rooted in Bodo tradition. From the early hours, thousands of pilgrims began the 4-kilometer climb, offering prayers for good health, inner peace, and the fulfillment of wishes. The age-old practice, passed down generations, continues to be a beacon of spiritual and communal unity.
This year, the event witnessed participation from people of various ethnic communities, symbolizing the inclusive ethos of the region. The Baokhungri Festival, held from April 12 to 14, was a vibrant mix of tradition, sport, and cultural expression.

Tourists, spiritual seekers, and culture enthusiasts were seen soaking in the festive atmosphere, with many describing the experience as both spiritually uplifting and culturally enriching.
The overwhelming response reaffirms Baokhungri's place not only as a spiritual landmark but also as a rising hub for eco-tourism and cultural tourism in the Northeast.
