Assam: Barpeta session court discharges Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani from two sections of IPCs

Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani appeared before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Barpeta in connection with a case registered against the legislator at Barpeta Road police station on September 19.

Jignesh Mevani had earlier appeared before the court of the chief judicial magistrate of Barpeta on July 17 and August 25.

Jignesh Mevani told reporters after appearing before the court today that the court has released him from two sections 294 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code registered against him.

However, the trial will continue on two other sections filed against him. Mevani said the court has fixed the date of the hearing again in October.

The MLA is hopeful that the 'India' bloc will soon yield good results in the country.

Jignesh Mevani was earlier arrested by Barpeta police in connection with a case registered under section 294/323/353/354 of the Indian Penal Code at Barpeta Road police station on April 21, 2022.

Jignesh Mevani today appeared before the court in connection with a case filed against the MLA mainly for allegedly obstructing public duties and violating the decency of women police.

Jignesh Mevani on the display of Sonia Gandhi as Bharat Mata in a Congress poster in Telangana said that all the women in this country are Bharat Mata.

Mevani's remarks against BJP over Sonia Jignesh Mevani also questioned why the BJP and Modi are silent over the rape of women in Manipur and Madhya Pradesh.

He said that no matter what the name 'Bharat, Hindustan or India' still has no electricity in the houses of 4 crore people in the country, about 40 crore people are unemployed, 20 crore people do not have houses.
