Assam: Bhutanese liquor worth Rs 4 crore seized ahead of Lok Sabha elections in Chirang

On the eve of the Lok Sabha elections, the excise department conducted a raid in Kajalgaon, Chirang, resulting in the seizure of 3 containers loaded with Bhutanese liquor. 

The Bhutanese liquor-laden containers were intercepted while en-route from the city of Gelefu in Bhutan to Delhi. The seized containers bear the registration numbers RJ 52 GA 3533, NL 01 AB 71 97, and NL 01 AH 5504.
A staggering total of 3130 cartons of liquor were confiscated from the three containers, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 4 crore. This substantial seizure underscores the magnitude of the illicit liquor trade and the significant financial stakes involved in such illegal activities.

Officials reported, "We seized these 3 trucks yesterday at 4 pm on the India-Bhutan border. 27110 liters of Alcohol have been seized. We will have to arrest the driver and transporters by abiding by the rules and regulations of the election".

He further mentioned that as of now 11  container trucks have been seized in the Kokrajhar , Bongaigaon and Chirang region.

The excise authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter to identify the individuals or groups behind the illegal transportation of Bhutanese liquor.
