Assam: Bihpuria college principal suspended on several charges including sexual harassment, financial fraud

The principal of Bihpuria College Dr Amulya Kumar Hazarika has been suspended on September 13 following multiple allegation involving sexual harassment, financial scam, according to sources. 

The Director of Higher Education, Assam issued a suspension order stating, "Pending drawal of Department proceeding, Dr Amukya Hazarika, Principal of Bihpuria College, Bihpuria, District - Lakhimpur is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect".

The order further added, "During the suspension period, Dr Amulya Hazarika will get subsistence allowance as per Rule. His head quarter will be Lakhimpur and he will not move out of head quarter without the approval of the competent authority".

"We have received information that our college principal has been removed following orders from the education department. We are extremely happy on the news. Since last month, several complaints were rased against him, and we protested against him for which we think that we have received the result today of our efforts. We are happy at the development. Instances like sexual harassment of students, corruption, robbery of college infrastructure, and several other complaints were filed against him. We protested keeping faith on the truth, and we think that truth prevailed today hence we received the result. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Chief Minister of Assam, Education Minister and the Senior Officials of the education department", said one of the professors.

The development comes following serious allegations raised against the principal financial scams, ill-treatment of female professors and employees, stealing computers, fans etc.
