The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is buoyed by its overwhelming performance in the Sivasagar district Panchayat elections, having secured 11 out of the 12 Zila Parishad seats on its own.
The remaining seat was won by a candidate from its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which is part of the ruling NDA alliance. The official announcement of the results is pending, but the outcome is already generating celebration within party ranks.
In a significant political development, the BJP has won all the Zila Parishad seats in the Sivasagar assembly constituency, currently held by Raijor Dal, further boosting the morale of the saffron party. Former MLA and BJP leader Kushal Duwari expressed satisfaction over the results, attributing the party's success to the people’s trust in the government’s development initiatives.

“The public has been drawn to the BJP due to their satisfaction with the government’s welfare schemes,” said Duwari. Taking a dig at the sitting MLA from Raijor Dal, he remarked that the people of Sivasagar do not appreciate arrogance and empty rhetoric. “The voters gave a wave of support to Congress in the last Lok Sabha election, but this Panchayat result proves they have reconsidered,” he added.
Speaking about the BJP’s gains in minority-dominated areas, Duwari stated that earlier, Congress used to deceive minority communities with false promises. “But under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, development schemes have reached everyone, irrespective of caste or community,” he said.
