Tensions ran high at the South Karimganj vote counting center when a scuffle broke out following a tie in votes between two candidates.
As the recount unfolded, the situation escalated, leading to the detention of two representatives—one from each camp—by police, after election observers reported misconduct.
The disturbance, which occurred in the midst of the intense election period, has raised concerns over the integrity of the process as the region gears up for the upcoming assembly elections.
According to sources, the incident took place in the Ilyaspur GP ward, where the vote count initially revealed a deadlock between the two leading candidates.

In response, the election officials decided to conduct a recount. However, when Hamida Begum Chowdhury's opponent was declared the winner, a representative from Hamida's camp reportedly caused a disruption at the counting center.
Eyewitnesses say that the situation became chaotic as the representative began shouting and creating a scene. As tensions escalated, election observers, who were present to monitor the process, intervened and handed both the representative and the ward member’s representative over to the police.
Local authorities have confirmed that the two individuals are now in police custody, and investigations are underway. Election officials assured that the incident would not affect the overall counting process, and all necessary precautions would be taken to ensure a fair and transparent outcome.
