Alert citizens successfully foiled livestock smuggling in Assam's Dhubri on September 20 and seized the vehicle left abandoned on National Highway - 17.
Few alert morning walkers successfully caught a truck laden with fish on the National Highway-17 under Golakganj police station and foiled the alleged smuggling bid.
The incident was reported after a vehicle's axel brake down on the National Highway 17, which was loaded with fish in a fully equipped manner. As a result, the smugglers fled from the scene leaving the fish laden Bolero pick-up van abandoned.
The morning walkers approached and checked the fish laden vehicle, where they found livestock which was hidden under a secret chamber below the temporary fish tank.
Meanwhile, the Golakganj police immediately reached the spot and unloaded the fish in highway and ten numbers of cattle heads were recovered from the pick-up van bearing registration WB-71A-7896.
It needs mention here that by using a variety of tactics, livestock smugglers continue to maintain their business by dousing the eyes of the police on average every day as they pass through five checkpoints.
