Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 7 took a dig at Congress MP Rakibul Hussain and his son Tanzil Hussain, who is contesting from the Samaguri constituency in the upcoming by-elections.
Addressing a public gathering in Samaguri, CM Sarma remarked on the perceived dynastic politics within Congress, stating, "Rakibul Hussain, who once won the Lok Sabha seat from Dhubri, now champions his son for Samaguri, sidelining dedicated party workers. Despite the presence of numerous capable Congress members, the party appears to place trust only in family ties."
CM Sarma contrasted this with the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) selection process, highlighting the recent nomination of Dipluranjan for the bypolls. "Does anyone know the name of Dipluranjan’s father?" Sarma asked rhetorically. "When BJP selects a candidate, it is based on the individual’s merit, not lineage," he emphasized. The Chief Minister suggested that if Samaguri residents were to question Rakibul Hussain about future leadership, they would hear only his son's name as the answer, hinting at the exclusion of other potential candidates. "Others in the party are left to watch from the sidelines, perhaps sipping Amul Milk," Sarma quipped, underscoring his criticism of Congress' alleged favoritism.
