Assam CM on May 7 mock drill: Awaiting detailed SoPs from MHA

Responding to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification regarding the nationwide civil defence mock drill scheduled for May 7, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "MHA has issued an order, but we will learn about the SoPs after the meeting."

The Chief Minister was referring to the high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan today, which brought together Chief Secretaries and Civil Defence officials from across the country to discuss preparedness and protocols.

The nationwide drill comes in the wake of heightened security concerns following the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. 

Assam is among several Northeastern states where air raid sirens will be sounded as part of the simulated multi-hazard response drill.

Notably, Northeastern states, among others will participate in a nationwide civic defence mock drill on May 7 announced by the Central government.  

The decision has been taken in light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam which claimed 26 lives. 

The nationwide drill, scheduled for tomorrow, May 7, will be held at a total of 259 locations in three categories. The Northeastern states will face the drill in categories II and III.

Category III - Darrang, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar
