Allegations of massive corruption and substandard construction work have emerged against Jandu Construction India Pvt. Ltd., a company tasked with building the 127(B) National Highway, connecting Srirampur to the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge in the Tamarhat area on Monday.
Reports of poor-quality construction on guard walls, drains, and culverts have sparked widespread anger among residents, particularly in the North Kachokhana area of Tamarhat in Dhubri.
Locals have accused the company of cutting corners and working hastily, often burying materials at night to conceal the substandard work.
Such practices, they warn, pose a significant threat to public safety, with fears of major accidents due to potential structural failures in the future. Tensions flared in Tamarhat as angry residents confronted the construction team, demanding accountability. The situation escalated to the point where police intervention was required to maintain order.

Despite repeated complaints from the public, the construction company has allegedly dismissed concerns, threatening complainants and citing support from the district administration as a shield against accountability.
Residents have expressed grave concern over the lack of oversight and demanded immediate action against the company for compromising public safety. “This is not just about corruption; it’s about the lives of people who travel this highway daily,” said a local resident.
The controversy highlights the need for stringent quality checks and transparency in infrastructure projects, particularly in sensitive regions like Assam, where such works are vital for connectivity and economic growth. Authorities are being urged to investigate the allegations thoroughly and ensure that safety standards are not compromised.
As public outrage grows, calls for stricter monitoring of outstation contractors like Jandu Construction continue to gain momentum, with locals demanding immediate corrective measures and accountability to prevent future mishaps.
