Assam: Cyber criminals arrested, 9 detained from Bhetapara

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Hatigaon police have apprehended a group of cyber criminals, with 9 individuals arrested from Bhetapara. The suspects were taken into custody from URBANICA HOMESTAY on Chandra Chowdhury Road in Bhetapara, where they had booked three rooms since April 10 under false identities.

According to reports, the criminals rented these rooms in the name of individuals from West Bengal, with four of the accused hailing from West Bengal itself, identified as Rupam Goswami, Deepak Singh, Feroz Khan, and Shloka Kumar. The remaining five suspects are residents of Assam.

Authorities believe that this group has been involved in a series of cyber crimes across Assam, targeting unsuspecting individuals and luring them into fraudulent schemes. It's alleged that the criminals operated a sophisticated network, using tactics to gather bank account details from common people and then engaging them in fraudulent activities.

During the raid, law enforcement seized several pieces of crucial evidence, including laptops, mobile phones, and objectionable documents, which are expected to provide further insights into the extent of their criminal activities. It's reported that many people in Assam had fallen victim to their schemes, highlighting the pervasive nature of cybercrime and the need for robust enforcement measures.
