Assam: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrives in Tezpur for convocation ceremony

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived here in Tezpur, Assam on December 31 to attend the 21st Convocation Ceremony of Tezpur University.

The Union Minister will be conferring degrees and diplomas upon the candidates who have successfully completed their prescribed programmes.

The University is extending its services beyond academics by training Indian Army personnel in the Chinese Language. In April, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Headquarter 4 Corps, representing the Indian Army, to offer a basic Chinese language course. The course will focus on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at an intermediate level.

The University is considering the inauguration of a Department of Defence Studies, a decision already ratified by the Academic Council and the Board of Management. The University is also in the process of collaborating with Defence forces for geospatial research and strategic mapping in the Indo-China border areas.

Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor, believes this will enhance India's defence preparedness and foster a deeper relationship between the Indian Army and academia. The initiative will also provide valuable data on border area residents to academically counter any unfounded claims by China. The convocation will see 1,355 students receiving Degrees and Diplomas.
