Assam DGP sends stern warning from Dhubri: “No one will be allowed to break Assam’s harmony”

Amid rising communal tensions and recent incidents that have threatened social harmony in Assam, Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh issued a firm and reassuring statement during his visit to Dhubri on Monday.

Singh, who accompanied Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier and returned on the CM's instructions, said the state government will not tolerate any attempts to disturb peace or disrespect any religious sentiments.

“The current situation as I see it is under control. Assam CM himself came here, I came with him, and today also I have come as per his instructions,” Singh stated while addressing the media in Dhubri.

He issued a clear warning: “No one will be allowed to spread any kind of lawlessness. No one will be allowed to break the harmony of Assam or disrespect any religion or religious place. Strictest action under the law will be taken.”

Referring to recent attempts by miscreants to stoke unrest, Singh made it clear that Assam’s peaceful progress will not be compromised. “There is no question of anyone trying to disrupt the progress and peaceful life that we lead in Assam,” he added.

In a proactive outreach, the DGP held meetings with delegations from various communities and religious groups. “I have given a very clear message and told them to talk within their communities about where and who is involved in such acts, and to come forward with information. They have all promised to cooperate and are working hand-in-hand with the administration,” Singh noted.

He emphasised that the ground situation remains calm and normal. “There is complete peace. Markets are open. Everything is in complete shape,” he confirmed, urging the public not to fall prey to rumours and to maintain brotherhood.

The DGP’s remarks come at a crucial time and reflect the government’s tough stance on communal provocation, with a call for unity and active public participation in preserving the state’s cherished harmony.
