The economic blockade enforced by the Moran community has triggered a fuel crisis across Tinsukia district, severely affecting the supply of petrol and diesel.
The blockade, which began on September 15, has been launched to press for the recognition of the Moran community as a Scheduled Tribe and the granting of Sixth Schedule autonomous status.
As a result, thousands of goods-carrying trucks have been stranded on highways across different parts of the district, including hundreds of vehicles transporting petrol and diesel—both loaded and empty.

This disruption has hit key towns such as Tinsukia, Makum, Sadiya, Margherita, Jagun, and Doomdooma, where most fuel depots are now running dry.
Consumers have been forced to return without fuel as supplies have nearly come to a standstill.
Meanwhile, the All Moran Students’ Union has warned the government that the agitation will continue in a sustained manner until their demands for Scheduled Tribe status and Sixth Schedule autonomy are met.
