Assam: Election code violation sparks controversy ahead of Rabha Hasong Council polls

Allegations of election code violations have surfaced in the ongoing Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections, involving BJP-backed candidate Meghali Rabha and a booth-level officer (BLO).

Meghali Rabha, contesting from the 22nd Bandapara Council constituency, allegedly violated the election code along with Niranjan Rabha, the village headman of Shilobari and a designated BLO for the polls.

On March 21, during the inauguration of Meghali Rabha’s campaign office in Sakhati, Boko, Niranjan Rabha attended as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the office by cutting the ribbon. His participation in a political event while serving as an election official raises serious concerns over neutrality and adherence to electoral guidelines.

The incident has triggered demands for action from election authorities, as political interference by polling officials is a direct violation of the model code of conduct.
