Assam: Elephant attack in Rangapara claims army jawan's life

An army jawan was killed in a wild elephant attack in Rangapara, highlighting the escalating elephant-human conflict in the area.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents as such encounters are becoming more frequent.

The tragic event occurred at section 16 of the Namgaon tea estate in Rangapara. Two army personnel from the Army Cantonment in Amribari were taking a walk in the afternoon when a wild elephant charged at them.

The deceased jawan was reportedly from an Army unit based in Thakurbari, Rangapara.

These recurring incidents highlight the urgent need for effective conflict-mitigation strategies, including early warning systems, safe corridors for elephant migration, and community education on coexisting with wildlife.
