Assam: Fighting odds, tea seller’s son passes HSLC exam with distinction, aspires to become an IAS Officer

None can stop a person from achieving his or her goals if they work towards their dreams with full conviction, dedication and hardwork. Gohpur’s Pranav Saikia had to fight odds to achieve his dreams.

The son of a tea-seller passed with first division from Dilapakhara Higher Secondary School in Gohpur in the HSLC examination whose results were announced yesterday. Pranav managed to get distinction with letter marks in five subjects.

Saikia who aspires to become an IAS officer in the future, scored 97 per cent in social science, 96 in mathematics, 95 in higher mathematics, 89 in English and 87.83 per cent in general science. The parents as well as the people of the area are very excited that Pranav has achieved this achievement despite being sick and fighting poverty.

It may be recalled that Pranav's mother Anju Saikia had set up a tea stall in the women's self-help group market in South Kalabari, while his father, Bapuram Saikia, taught his son to sell vegetables in addition to asking him to assist him in his tea shops in various weekly markets.

With financial constraints looming on the family all time and ailing health, Pranav fought all odds and stood out like a shining star among his peers and that is shown by his determination and hardwork.

But Pranav’s parents are now worried about providing him higher education, who wants to study Science in higher secondary.
