Assam: Floods devastate villages in Naharkatia as Burhidihing River overflows

Persistent heavy rains in Arunachal Pradesh have caused the Burhidihing River's water level to surge, leading to widespread flooding across multiple villages in Assam.

The inundation has particularly affected the old Kaivarta village and Sasoni in Naharkatia, including the areas of Amguri, Bharlua village, Bali village, Tingrai Kaivartya, Dahal Kalagra, and Bamunibil.

Residents are reeling from shock as the flooding has submerged the homes of more than 150 families overnight. The agricultural community has seen their yearly stockpiles of gold and food washed away by the overflowing Burhidihing, exacerbating the distress in the region.

Those affected have sought refuge in shelter camps set up by local authorities. Despite these efforts, many flood victims remain in distress as they witness the devastation, with the surging waters sweeping away doors and damaging properties extensively.
