Assam: Forest Department seizes eight illegal sawmill pits in Chirang

The forest department of Chirang district launched a successful operation in the Baghmara area of Bijni, resulting in the seizure of eight illegal sawmill pits. Acting on confidential information received from the Bijni depot of the forest department, a specialized team moved into action on Thursday.

Despite their efforts, the operation team encountered no individuals at the scene and thus, no arrests were made. However, the seizure of the illegal sawmill pits marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat deforestation and preserve the region's valuable forest resources.

Following the operation, the seized sawmill pits were transported to the Bijni depot office of the forest department for further investigation and processing. Officials are now working to identify the perpetrators behind the illegal logging activities and to prevent any further damage to the forest ecosystem.
