Assam government initiates crackdown on substandard student uniforms, conducts laboratory test

In accordance with the stern instructions from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Education Department is acting swiftly against substandard government school uniforms.

Suppliers who have been delivering inferior-quality uniforms to students are now being more careful.

The government has clarified that students will only suffer consequences if the quality of their new uniforms is classified under Category C.

The state government has been very particular about the quality of student uniforms.

The new uniforms are currently undergoing tests in a laboratory.

Under the supervision of Kaliabor's Education Division, these tests are being carried out in Kaliabor College's laboratory.

The testing process includes immersing a 5-gram piece of the uniform material in a solution of 70 ML sulphuric acid and 30 ML water for 2 minutes, followed by rinsing and drying it in cold water.

The dried and ironed cloth is then weighed again to ascertain the amount of cotton in the fabric.

The lab will submit a report of the uniform evaluations to the Education Department.

Chief Minister Himanta had earlier cautioned of harsh penalties for those accountable for substandard quality uniforms.
