The newly formed Kamtapur People's Front party has announced to field candidates in four constituencies of the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a press conference, the party's working president Biswajit Rai said, "We will field candidates in four constituencies that is Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Mangaldoi. We have already announced earlier of fielding our candidates as we announced the formation of the party and for which needed an opportunity for the same to establish ourselves politically. Additionally, not only politically, earlier several parties came to power, made tall claims and promises but fulfilled only 10 per cent of the promises after elections. So, in order to work for the indigenous people of the area, we have decided to take the political course".
Since the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency is reserved for tribals, the Kamtapur People's Front indicated that the party will negotiate with like-minded political parties in the constituency.
Speaking on the recent cabinet decisions taken by Assam Government, Biswajit Rai expressed his displeasure over the fact that the Assam Cabinet has adopted a discriminatory policy towards the Kamtapur Autonomous Council without taking any steps to grant constitutional legitimacy to the Kamtapur Autonomous Council in parallel with the PF.
In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 7, a proposal was adopted in the cabinet to give constitutional legitimacy to Rabha-Hasong, Tiwa Council and Mising Autonomous Council.
