Assam: Leopard found dead in Bongaigaon district

A leopard was found dead at Kakaijana Thakuranipara on National Highway 17 on March 26 night in the Bongaigaon district of Assam, said an official.

As per officials, the leopard is suspected to have been killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on the highway.

''A leopard was found dead on the National Highway 117. It seems that he was hit by a truck while crossing the road. We reached the spot after receiving the information of the same from the local people. Such incidents are common in this area as a few days back, money was killed after a truck hit him,'' a forest officer said while speaking to the media.

Upon receiving the information, forest personnel from the Abhayapuri forest officer's office rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the leopard. 

It is worth mentioning that several animals such as monkeys and leopards have lost their lives recently after being hit by speeding vehicles on the highway.  

Later, the body of the deceased Latamaguri was sent for post-mortem by the forest department.
