Assam: Major tragedy averted after security personnel diffuse suspected IED in Tinsukia’s Makum

A major tragedy was averted in Assam’s Tinsukia district after security personnel recovered a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on April 26 and successfully diffused it.

As per reports, the suspected IED was discovered by an army patrolling team at Tinsukia’s Makum Road near an overbridge this morning at around 10 am, spreading panic in the area.

Meanwhile Superintendent of Police, Tinsukia, Abhijit Gurav has reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Speaking to the media on the entire incident, Tinsukia SP Abhijit Gurav said, “Today morning at 10 am we received information of the discovery of a bomb like suspected object at the Makum overbridge. Immediately the police and army personnel reached at the spot. We cordoned off the area and took the suspected object to a safe areas and destroyed it. We are currently investigating what actually was the object. We have successfully diffused the object and trying to find out who had planted the object here and whether there is any organisation behind the incident.

It may be noted that the suspected IED has been diffused successfully and an investigation into the incident has been initiated by the Tinsukia police.
