Khairul Islam, a school teacher from Khandapukhuri in Mikirbheta, Morigaon district, who was previously deported to Bangladesh after being labelled a foreign national, has finally returned to his home following a court directive.
Islam’s return late last night brought an emotional atmosphere to his household, with relatives visibly overwhelmed upon his arrival.
A few weeks ago, Khairul Islam was among several individuals in Assam who were declared "Bangladeshi nationals" and listed for deportation under the state government's ongoing drive against illegal immigrants. He was subsequently deported to Bangladesh nearly 15 days ago.

However, following a legal battle and a ruling by the court, Islam was allowed to return to Assam and rejoin his family.
Speaking to the media upon his return, Khairul Islam expressed deep sorrow and described the emotional and mental trauma he and his family endured during the ordeal. His case has reignited concerns over the accuracy and fairness of the deportation process in Assam.
