Margherita Police successfully apprehended three notorious drug peddlers and seized 16.96 grams of banned contraband, including heroin, in a joint operation conducted in the Hillview and Bargolai, Bashbari areas on Friday afternoon.
The anti-drug operation was led by Margherita Police Station Officer-in-Charge Protap Gogoi, who spearheaded a crackdown on drug peddlers. The operation resulted in the arrest of Jiten Gwala from Hillview, Margherita, and Sofikul Ali and Naziruddin Ali from Bargolai, Bashbari.
A total of 16.96 grams of contraband was seized, including 8.11 grams of drugs from Jiten Gwala, a resident of Ulup, and 8.85 grams of suspected heroin from Sofikul Ali and Naziruddin Ali, residents of Maulang, Ledo.

The local residents have expressed satisfaction with the police’s swift action, seeing it as a significant step in curbing drug trafficking in the region.
Officer-in-Charge Protap Gogoi stated, "Based on a tip-off, we were able to apprehend three notorious drug peddlers along with banned contraband. Our anti-drug operations will continue as we remain committed to making Margherita a drug-free region."
The arrested individuals will be produced before the Margherita Sub-Divisional Magistrate Court, and further investigations are underway to uncover the larger network of drug peddlers operating in the area for several years.
