Assam: Massive explosion in oil tanker in Digboi; two injured

A major accident occurred on Monday at Ramnagar in Digboi when a powerful explosion rocked an oil tanker bearing registration number AS07 C 5132 during welding repairs at a local garage.

The blast took place while welding was being carried out on the tanker for maintenance. Two individuals — the driver, Sunil Bora (51), and a mechanic, Umesh Singh (46) — sustained serious injuries, particularly to their bodies and faces.

Fortunately, other workers present at the site escaped unhurt.

Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion occurred due to gross violation of safety norms and unauthorized repair work being conducted on the highly inflammable oil tanker. The vehicle is reportedly from Doymukh, Lakhimpur.

Police from Digboi reached the scene promptly, and both injured individuals were immediately referred to Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment.
