Assam: Nalbari's SVEEP campaign boosts women's role in elections

In a novel initiative, the Nalbari District Administration today conducted a grand SVEEP campaign to emphasize the importance of women's active engagement in the electoral process for the nation's improvement.

The campaign was held at the Office of the District Commissioner, Nalbari. Nalbari, also known as 'Pragya Nagari', is predominantly led by female officers, with distinguished IAS Officer, Varnali Deka, serving as the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner.

Deka has been recognized at both the state and national levels for her innovative work, including the Best DEO Award from the Election Commission of India in 2022.

The campaign was aimed at encouraging more women voters to cast their votes and apply for enrollment or shifting in the voter list as needed.

The event concluded with a hands-on training session for nearly 300 female polling personnel, who, dressed in traditional Assamese attire – Mekhela Chador in various shades of pink, gathered in front of the office of the District Election Officer.

They held pink placards with various SVEEP messages urging all to exercise their voting rights.

In another significant step, 50% of the Urban Polling stations of the District will be completely managed by Women Polling teams in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections for Nalbari District scheduled for May 7th.
