Assam: Neglect plagues multi-crore irrigation project in Ledo, turns into ghost house

The multi-crore irrigation project situated in Ledo Maulang, under the 83 no. Margherita constituency in Tinsukia district, Assam, has descended into a state of abandonment, resembling nothing short of a ghost house.

The dismal state of affairs was brought to light by local residents, who voiced their concerns over the apparent lack of interest shown by the Assam Irrigation Ministry and higher-level officials towards the project's upkeep. The sprawling infrastructure, once touted as a symbol of progress, now lies in disrepair, with numerous iron pipes, boats, staff quarters, water motors and various electrical equipment scattered about in neglect.

Speaking to India Today NE a local resident said that despite the presence of four employees ostensibly assigned to oversee the project, their visits to the site are infrequent, while hefty salaries continue to be drawn month after month without visible progress.
