Assam: Neglected road in Barpeta constituency prompt protests ahead of third phase of LS Polls

Ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, residents of Barabhag in Nalbari district have taken to the streets to protest the lack of development, particularly the poor condition of roads. Men, women, and even children have come out in large numbers, demanding immediate repairs to the roads that have been neglected for years.

The sorry state of infrastructure in parts of Barabhag, Nalbari district, has become a focal point of frustration for the local residents. Students, including young children, are unable to attend school due to the deplorable condition of the roads, while even significant life events such as weddings are affected, with grooms hesitating to venture into the area.

One of the most alarming consequences of the neglected roads is the hindrance it poses to emergency services. Ambulances struggle to navigate the pothole-ridden roads, potentially endangering lives in critical situations. Accidents are a frequent occurrence due to the poor road conditions, further exacerbating the safety concerns of the residents.

The grievances of the villagers along the route leading to Adabari via Karia Bijulighat are emblematic of the broader neglect faced by the 22 villages in the area. Despite repeated appeals and complaints, there has been little to no progress in addressing the infrastructural woes plaguing the region.

In response to the apathy of authorities, locals have issued a stern ultimatum, threatening to boycott the upcoming elections if immediate action is not taken to rectify the situation. The severity of the situation is underscored by the plight of women in villages like Karia Daladi Suba and Bihdiya, who have been disproportionately affected by the lack of government support and schemes such as the Arunodaya scheme and government housing initiatives.
