A string of accidents on National Highway 127(B), particularly between Srirampur and the Dhubri-Phulbari bridge, has triggered widespread concern, with residents blaming Jandu Construction India Private Limited for alleged negligence during ongoing construction work.
The latest mishap occurred last night when a motorcyclist and pillion rider fell into an unmarked pit dug for culvert construction, sustaining serious injuries. Locals rushed to their aid and arranged for immediate medical attention through the district administration.
The highway stretch, currently under development, has become a hazard zone due to a lack of barricades, the absence of warning signage, and no clear traffic diversion plans. Residents allege that culverts are being constructed by digging up the main road without ensuring basic safety protocols — a situation that has led to multiple accidents in recent weeks.

Despite repeated complaints to officials overseeing the project, no corrective measures have been implemented, locals say. Vulnerable groups like school and college students, daily commuters, and pedestrians are most at risk due to these unsafe conditions.
The community is now demanding immediate action against Jandu Construction India Pvt. Ltd. and accountability from the concerned government departments. They are calling for urgent installation of barricades, safety markers, and proper management of traffic flow to avert further tragedies.
As the accidents continue to pile up, the situation underscores an urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety standards in infrastructure development across Assam.
