Assam: Nephew kills uncle due to family dispute in Cooch Behar

Tragedy struck the peaceful village of East Falimari, nestled on the Assam-Bengal border, as a family dispute took a fatal turn, resulting in the death of Ali Sheikh, a 75-year-old resident. The incident, which occurred under the jurisdiction of Bakshirhat police station in Behar district, has left the community reeling in shock and grief.

The conflict between uncle and nephew escalated six days ago over a boundary dispute within their household. On a fateful Saturday afternoon, tensions reached a breaking point, culminating in a violent altercation. Ali Sheikh's nephew, identified as Hafizul Sheikh, allegedly attacked him with a wooden blunt object, inflicting serious head injuries.

In the aftermath of the altercation, Hafizul Sheikh himself sustained severe injuries. He was initially rushed to Alipurduar for immediate medical attention but was later transferred to Siliguri for advanced treatment due to the gravity of his condition. However, his critical state necessitated further relocation to Guwahati. Tragically, despite medical efforts, Hafizul succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The untimely demise of Ali Sheikh, described as the sole breadwinner of his family, has left a void in the village community. Anguish and frustration resonate among the villagers, who express their dismay over the perceived delay in apprehending the culprits responsible for the tragedy. Despite the passage of several days since the incident, the perpetrators remain at large.

In a plea for justice, the villagers call upon the authorities to expedite the investigation and ensure the swift arrest of those responsible for Ali Sheikh's death. Their heartfelt appeal underscores the urgent need for closure and accountability in the wake of this devastating loss.
